3d reconstruction of Julian |
Yesterday, near Strasbourg in 357, an army of 13,000 Romans defeated 35,000 Germans.
The Roman commander was Caesar Julian, whom his Christian enemies called "The Apostate" but whom his friends and soldiers called "Disciple of Mars".
He deserved nickname as he was not only an excellent general, but also created the first force of "Commandos".
Julian was betrayed and killed by a Christian during a successful campaign against the Persians on June 26, 363.
But his legacy, the legacy of Rome, persists in spite of his Christian assassins
